************************************************************************

I can't believe November is here already!  We're all looking forward to the cooler temps, after a very rainy October! The annual tradition of the Membership Show starts off the Fall & holiday season with a wonderful display of creative awesomeness!  Congratulations to all the winners! A complete list of the winners is in this newsletter. The opening reception was a huge success and a great time was had by all.  Thanks to the 9th St. Band for providing entertainment and Shawn Davis for the refreshments.

Speaking of Shawn...so glad to see her well on the way to recovery after knee replacement.  She hobbled in on a cane - set up the refreshment table & then served at the wine & beer table.  You just can't keep that gal down!

If you don't have it on your calendar, you must plan to attend the Membership Business Meeting on October 29. Very important announcements will be made regarding the future of our Association and ART on the Square gallery.

If you haven't volunteered in the gallery this month, there are still plenty of opportunities to become involved in the day-to-day business of our Association.  Be a volunteer - you can be as active as you have time for.  4 hours a month isn't a lot of time considering the good it does.  Ellis County Art Association is a success because of the incredible and willing volunteers that staff the gallery 6 days a week!

Our guest artist is a delight to watch!  Stormie Parker is returning to Waxahachie to demonstrate her technique with clay using her potter's wheel.  Please plan to come and help us welcome her back. Be there...November 5 - doors open at 6pm.

See you Soon!

Tina Bohlman - President

SPECIAL BUSINESS MEETING - ELLIS COUNTY ART ASSOCIATION

ALL MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!

OCTOBER 29, 2018  -  6:30pm

CONCERNING CHANGES TO MEMBERSHIP LEVELS & DUES

Over the past 60 years, our association has evolved from a small art group of 20 into a dynamic, vibrant Fine Art Association with a membership of 170 and still growing!  Opening a gallery has presented us with many challenges and after 2 years of operation, we must make some decisions going forward into the future.

With the sale of the building on Main Street and subsequent move to the Square, it is time to re-structure our membership levels, define the specific benefits within each level, annual dues for each level, and address issues with the volunteer system for staffing the gallery.

The Board of Directors is calling this meeting to present members with our vision of a "new & improved"  Ellis County Art Association.

We realize that "change is hard" but at times, it is necessary. On January 1, 2019, we must implement several changes that are necessary for our Association to continue into the future.

Before we move forward, we are calling this meeting to inform you and welcome your questions, comments and suggestions.  If you want to be a part of forming the future of ECAA...you need be present!

Thanks,

 Board of Directors:

Tina Bohlman, President - Dave McSpadden, Vice President - Shawn Davis, Treasurer - Carolyn Smith, Secretary - Phyllis Shingler, Historian - Francys Flanagan, Director - Stephen Spence, Director - Jana Jennings, Director - Mary Rabien, Director - Rachel Rinehart, Director- J.D. Fields, Director.

By popular request, we're delighted to welcome Stormie Parker back to Waxahachie as our guest demonstration artist for November.  Stormie is bringing her "wheel", the tools of her trade and will share her creative process.

Please plan to come and watch Stormie work her magic with clay!

OCTOBER MINI-SHOW   -  ARTISTS OF THE MONTH

Well, we're SO disappointed! There were not enough entries for the mini show.  Don't let another month go by without bringing your entry!  Everyone wants to see what you've been working on!

************************************************

1st Monday - DECEMBER 3rd.

Remember the fun we had with the silent auction of art-related items at our December holiday gathering last year? Not only did everyone walk away with a new art supply item or painting at a "bargain" price....but we raised over $800 for two children's non-profit agencies for art supplies.

We're doing it again!  Start cleaning out your studio NOW and get your art stuff ready to sell!  You know what we're talking about...it's that "absolutely necessary...gotta have it" art supply item that you couldn't live without ...but never got around to using!  Any art-related item that is new (or "gently used"), or any original work of art will be accepted.  The silent auction is a great opportunity to "re-home" art supplies, equipment or art...and raise money for a good cause!

More information will be coming soon, but for now...start gathering up your "art stuff"!

HELP WANTED - ECAA Publicity:

It is time for our Association to connect with the general public and tell our unique story.  Videos which are linkable through YouTube is the answer.  So, if you have the knowledge and ability to create a "shoot", edit and publish video on YouTube, the Board wants to hear from you.  We need to let our light shine on the formidable history, evolution and talent of our Association, the Art of the Square Gallery and its members.
