ART On the Square – Classroom
113 W. Franklin St.
Waxahachie, TX 75165
DESCRIPTION: This is not a "how to paint" workshop – it is assumed that participants have intermediate to advanced painting skills. The focus is on the challenges we encounter when painting outdoors. In addition to choosing the right kind of supplies & equipment, one of the most essential skill of painting outdoors is the ability to adapt to the prevailing conditions; sun – wind – temperature. Beyond the conditions, one must evaluate a scene before-hand and discern whether or not it contains the necessary elements that will translate into a painting. Main class objectives are:
· Getting comfortable in your plein air “studio”.
· Tips for painting on location.
· Using a sketchbook: working with thumbnail value sketches
· Letting go of the details
· Developing skills of observation & site selection
Open to all skill levels, the class is primarily structured for the intermediate to advanced painter NEW to the plein air experience. Each day begins with a short lecture, followed by a demonstration. In the field, participants will complete several thumbnail value sketches and at least 2 small paintings or color studies. The workshop goal is for participants to become comfortable in their outdoor studio and embrace the plein air experience.
