This is a four hour one-day workshop teaching about composition using the principles of
design and how to create your own painting or drawing.
Participants should already know the basic techniques of a two-dimensional medium such as
drawing in color or black and white, watercolor, acrylic or oil painting. We will use a still life set-
up in the classroom to explore various designs for your painting or drawing.
You will learn what the principles of design are and how to apply them to what you see.
Bring the materials you normally use for a painting or drawing.
Be sure to include pencils and a sketchbook.
Tracing paper will be provided, but bring whatever else you normally use: paint, brushes,
medium, and four small surfaces: either canvas panels or watercolor paper. These can be the
inexpensive ones.
The class will meet from 10 to 3 pm on Saturday, October 7 th . There will be a one-hour break for
lunch on your own.
Four to ten students from age 16 up
